Dreaming ...

An idea? Hmm … what is it really? Is it only a thought? Personally, I think 'raw ideas' are essentially, dreams that are resurfacing ... it's kinda' like when in our youth, we have these profound ideas, an epiphany if you will, of our lives when we are ‘all grown up’.

We dream big when we are younger … when we have NO idea whatsoever of what it will take to make that dream come true … yet, as we get older and life complicates things, those ‘dreams’ or ‘epiphanies’ seem to resurface because someway, somehow, they make life worth living … they make mornings worth waking up to … and they surely make for something to fight for … to hope for … so come on already! Stare up at the vast sky, and start dreaming again! Who knows … that ‘idea’ could just turn into what you’ve always ‘dreamed’ for!

Downtown Beauty | Robert C. Beutter Park | Mishawaka, IN

We enjoy scouting out new locations to photograph our clients. And while South Bend has its beautiful spots, it's nice to venture outside of South Bend to scope out other locations.

I was recently in Mishawaka and decided to stop by Beutter Park. I had never been there - but we planned a shoot there in a few weeks and I decided to check it out before the shoot. Boy, am I glad I did. It was BEAUTIFUL. It's magical really. The flowers, the water, the art ... rather gorgeous in EVERY way.

It's funny ... when you actually stop to look and take the time to see the beauty that surrounds you, you somehow realize that this world really isn't so bad. It's actually quite breathtaking.

Couples | Briannia and Josh | East Race | South Bend, IN

We held a drawing a few weeks for a free photo session. Just a way to give back to our patrons and take a few more pictures in the process!

The lucky winners were Briannia and Josh! They are dedicated parents and deserved a little break to enjoy some time together.

We snapped their photos down by the East Race - and while the sun was blazing, this adorable pair were troopers. They had some great fun striking a pose too!

Engagement Session | Ali and Adam | Notre Dame, Indiana

Love is such a special thing. It's quite remarkable how it can change us for the better - most often love gives us the opportunity to believe in something outside of ourselves.

When I first met Alison, it was through an email. She contacted me a few months ago about her upcoming wedding to her sweetheart Adam. I could instantly tell that she was so in love. Funny how love can do that - even through an email conversation you just KNOW when love, is LOVE.

I wanted to meet this happy couple, so we decided to take a few engagement photos at Notre Dame. We met by the Grotto - it was one of the locations that Alison really wanted to snap a few photos. It was a place that meant a lot to her.

When we met, I could instantly see the love these two had for each other. While they were a little nervous at first - we made the most of our time - and they had some fun together too!

The happy pair is getting married in October - it shall be a special day indeed.

Life ... Change ... Moments

Life is all about the moments that make it up. Sure, we don't know what lurks around the corner from day to day, but I like to think there is some order - some purpose in those moments. After all, those 'moments' are what make life worth living.

While change typically comes with years, moments change, people change - I still think change is a good thing. Often times it can be so overwhelming. Yet it remains one of those things that build character ... as I've gotten older, I've realized that change is such a necessity ... it makes us become the people we were always meant to become.

While I wish I understood life a little better, I've learned and continue to learn that having all the answers and understanding everything isn't a prerequisite for living life. You just do it ... and live it ... day by day. You learn from living, and through living you learn life's greatest lessons. It's amazing how that happens, yet I think that's what it's all about. In those lessons, that's where life picks us back up - and those moments that make it up, help us remember why that change was necessary - and we see another life ... change ... moment.

So ... What About that Name of Yours??

So, you might wonder what’s the deal with our name? Maybe? Some people have asked – perhaps others have wondered. So we figure we’ll put the wonderment to rest here.

Erin and I are of course sisters, but coming up with a name was a daunting task for us. We wanted to select something unique – something that defined us. We probably wrote down 100 different names.

A friend of my sister’s was brainstorming with us and said why not call yourselves Hey Sister! We have two other sisters as well and whenever we answer the phone, visit with each other, that’s what we say upon first speaking or seeing each other, ‘Hey Sister!’ It's one of those phrases that we've used since we were kids - and well, it's followed us into adulthood.

So, of course we didn’t ponder long – we thought, this is rather perfect. We decided we’d name ourselves Hey Sisters! Photography. That sisterly bond we share is one of a kind - despite distance and time, it's constant - and I can't tell you how much fun we all have when we're together. So our name not only represents us, but it defines us. After all, where would we be without our sisters?!

So, here we are today … enjoying this endeavor and enjoying the sister time we get to spend together. We always say, 'sister time, is the BEST time'. Who could ask for anything better?!?
